Monterey Pine is one of the most widely planted timber pines in the world, prized for its durability and resilience. The cone scales from this species are exceptionally robust, making them one of the longest-lasting botanicals available for blackwater aquariums.

These uniquely shaped pine cone scales add a distinctive texture to leaf-litter beds and biotope aquascapes, offering something a little different from traditional botanicals. Often described as the “everlasting gobstoppers” of aquarium botanicals, they can remain structurally intact in water for up to a year before showing noticeable signs of decay. As they condition, they release a steady level of beneficial tannins and develop biofilm that shrimp and bottom-dwelling fish love to graze on.

Tannins Released: Medium

All our botanicals are organically sourced, free from harmful pesticides, and naturally sun-dried without the use of chemicals.
