Spider wood, a type of wood unique to the aquarium hobby, boasts unique characteristics that make it a popular choice among aquarists. With its multiple branches protruding from the main body, resembling a tree, spider wood is commonly used in creating stunning aquascapes. Its branchy character provides ample hiding spots for fish and shrimp, while also serving as a perfect anchor for plants like Java fern. Whether you're an experienced aquarist or just starting, spider wood is a must-have in your aquarium.
Spider wood requires some preparation before use. It may not sink immediately and will need to be weighted for approximately a week until it becomes fully saturated. What sets spider wood apart from other driftwood types is the minimal amount of tannins released, making it an excellent choice in certain situations.
Newcomers To Aquatic Wood: During the initial phase of submersion, a white biofilm will form on the spider wood. It is completely harmless, it can be consumed by certain fish, shrimp, and snails. However, it is essential to note that some types of plecos may consume spider wood as it is relatively softer than other types of driftwood.
